Well Here We Are: The Music of UFO8
UFO8 are a trio of Humboldt-based boys – Chris Reynoso, Alec Perrone, and Dash Rowe – and The Island is their druggy and endearing debut. Much of its appeal lies in how well they weave alternative rock (“Backdoor”), 50′s Motown (“What a Life”), psychedelia (“Golden”), love songs (“She Really Gets Me”), and reggae roots rock (“Sing Out”) into something fresh and different than that of their peers in Humboldt.
Drum solos, philosophical lyrics, and jangly guitars are present throughout the album – and each member can show for it. Chris’s lyrics move the album from song to song, Alec’s drumming is soft at times and fierce when need be, and Dash appears on the mic at times with powerful vocal performances (and amazing bass during the finale of “Sing Out” to close the album).
Reynoso’s voice is soft, sweet, frustrated, and soulful that shapes every song to perfection – and complemented by guest singer Arianna Seal on “Love Song”.
It is a raw album that takes you to different places, however maintains it’s pop appeal – with so much sound coming from only three people.
