Music Central Episode 10 (4/11/12):
GIRLS

On last night's show it featured my brother, Chris. We have heard Chris before from several UFO 8 sounds clips during transitions. That night, we were going to see one of our favorite bands called GIRLS. They are a San Francisco based band that achieved success with their first album titled Album (2009). We started off with Laura and Ghost Mouth, both, of course, off of said album. We discussed every song, the album's popularity, and the freshness of it all. The album opened doors for us - making us interested in morden rock. It's no wonder that the album is on my top 10 of greatest albums of all time.

Lollapalooza 2012 Lineup: Black Sabbath, Chili Peppers, Jack White
Black Keys, Bassnectar, The Shins, and Florence and the Machine also tapped to play this year's fest

Axl Rose Will Not Attend Guns N' Roses' Rock and Roll Hall Induction Ceremony

Death Cab for Cutie Kick Off Orchestral Tour in Denver

Next, we played Oh So Protective One and Alright off of GIRLS's next release: Broken Dreams Club. The album was released in 2010, a year after their first release. The album only contained 6 new tracks, however, we loved it. GIRLS stepped into new boundaries, adding a horn section - and a full time band. In their previous release, the band consisted of just Christopher Owens and Chet JR White, and two drummers that would come in. Great album, we were excited upon it's release. We both love how GIRLS was experimenting with new sounds - and it worked!

New albums by Bassnectar and Monica
and there is a new Kanye West single called Mercy

Coming soon we got
Love is a Four Letter Word by Jason Mraz
California 37 by Train
April 17

Blunderbuss by Jack White
April 24

Outside Lands lineup will be announced on the 17th.

And finally, their lasted release - their second full length album: Father, Son, Holy Ghost. Chris and I were excited by this album and it passed our expectations. The music sounded crisp, refreshing, and mature. Owens really crafted something great and it makes Album seem so amateur. The album featured the single Vomit - an epic song with a taste of Pink Floyd towards the end. Die, another hardcore song, blew Morning Light out of the water. The GIRLS's pop sound is still here too (Honey Bunny and Magic). Also great alternative tunes (Alex and My Ma). Hellhole Ratrace's brother Forgiveness shows up on here - over 7 minutes long!

New Live White Stripes DVD
Under New Zealand Lights captures the Stripes in the early 2000's

The White Stripes have stopped releasing music since 2007, however a great live album and DVD was given to fans just two years ago - now, a new live DVD is on the way. The film draws footage from their November 2000 performance in Auckland (the band's first international tour) and the October 2003 performance.

Song of the Day: Alright
Girls at their best

Music Central Episode 9 (4/4/12):

The Beatles Again?

On tonight's episode the show started off with a Starfucker single titled "Julius". A swirling, psychedelic alternative jam. Next was an Al Green classic, "Let's Stay Together".

Katy Perry's 3D concert movie will hit theaters  this Fourth of July weekend, the Los Angeles Times reports. Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D, a film featuring documentary and live footage of the pop star, will debut on July 5th in a bid to match the success of Justin Bieber's highly profitable Never Say Never 3D concert film.

- Titanic in 3D was re-released today. The film was first released 15 years ago and at the time it was the highest grossing film of all time - and it kept that title for 12 years until James Cameron’s next film beat it with Avatar.

- New albums from Nicki Minaj, Rascal Flatts, Lights,

After the break, Will and I discussed James McCartney's possible formation of the new Beatles. James McCartney is Paul's son and what he wants to do is record with Sean Lennon, Dhani Harrison, and Zak Starkey. The group seem to be on board with the situation, however I have mixed feelings. Luckily, this won't add to their original discography - they will call themselves The Beatles: The Next Generation (maybe). What we decided was this will get a load of buzz. Rolling Stone Magazine will have these guys on their cover, and the news outlets will run this story for a long time if an album is going to be made. However, I don't think it will match The Beatles' classic material. The album will be about a 7.0 at best.

The Next Episode by Dr. Dre was played. It's off 2001 (1999). After, a Wolfmother song titled Where Eagles Have Been played. Really exchanging different genres tonight.

Madonna and Lionel Richie are topping the charts right now, Richie earned his best chart placement since 1986.

Today is Muddy Water’s birthday, he would have been 99 today. The American blues singer was generally considered to be the father of modern Chicago Blues.
To celebrate his birthday listen to “Got My Mojo Working”, “Mannish Boy”, and “(I’m Your) Hoochie Coochie Man”
Or listen to the 2001 album The Anthology which covers his work from 1947 to 1972. It ranked #38 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of all time.

We picked up The Beatles conversation picked up when we played samples of the sons' works. Our favorite was Sean's song. Overall, this new project is exciting - the end result won't be fantastic or revolutionary. Paul McCartney should produce this while George Marting should over look the project.

On this day in Beatle history:
Mixing: You're Going To Lose That Girl

Friday, April 2, 1965 (47 years ago)
Studio Two, EMI Studios, Abbey Road
Producer: George Martin
Engineer: Norman Smith

While The Beatles were filming their second movie Help! at Twickenham Film Studios, You're Going To Lose That Girl received a new stereo mix.

This was the second stereo version of the song, following two pervious mixes on February 23rd, 1965. This version was unused, and the February 23rd on was released on the album.
